Knox Box Program

Within the Village of Chagrin Falls key boxes are required on all commercial and educational occupancies, as well as multi-family dwellings housing more than two families. 

Key boxes must be purchased with paperwork filed through the Chagrin Falls Fire Department as the boxes are keyed to the specific municipality. 

The Ohio Fire Code states:  Where access to or within a structure or an area is unduly difficult because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) shall be permitted to require a key box to be installed in an accessible location.  The key box shall be an approved type and shall contain keys to gain access as required by the AHJ.  (Key boxes are also available for single or double family dwellings, but are not required).
