VILLAGE OF CHAGRIN FALLS
PARKS COMMISSION
November 16, 2009
Members present: deConingh, Lutz, Skeel
Also present: Ben Himes, Jeff Snedeker
The meeting convened in Council Chambers in Village Hall at 8:48 AM.
Because she is no longer a village resident, Beth Skeel has had to submit to Mayor Brick her resignation from the commission; however, she is eager to remain as an advisor and we all hope she can! A new commission member must be found; the name of Janine Bauman has been suggested.
2009 ACCOMPLISHMENTS/2010 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
A review of these tentative lists elicited a number of additions and deletions. One chief concern is improved communication between Connie DeGood and the Service Department regarding Streetscape maintenance. Anne will amend and e-mail them to commissioners for further consideration.
RIVERSIDE PARK
• New playground additions – Ben said Council, at its last meeting, authorized the Village Engineer to prepare plans for bids; these should be ready for the Parks Commission to consider at its December meeting. The commission reviewed Big Toys EC 625 Early Works Moving Tunnels and IS2-8-2B2I (2 bay/2 belt/2 infant) In Line Metal Swings as well as the expanded playground surface and engineered mulch needs. The group agreed that this is what it wants to install.
• The Dogwood Valley Garden Club has planted a Chinese dogwood tree in the park in honor of deceased club presidents. These include Lois Beattie (1954), Kay Stevens (1955), Maxine Frohring (1956), Sue Corn (1957), Annie Gumprecht (1962), Nan Trimble (1967), Betsy MacKenzie (1968), Nancy Garrett (1971), Genelle Parks (1977), and Caroline Sutliff (1999).
BELL STREET PARK
The commission asked Ben to contact the Mario’s building owners to learn what they are planning to do with the area outside the building.
PARK AREA AT TOP OF STAIRWAY TO THE FALLS
A village resident has approached Ben Himes about volunteering to remove the ivy growing on the trunk of the magnolia tree. Davey Tree has examined the situation; they said the tree does not seem to be suffering and would probably be best left untouched for now. It should be monitored, however.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 AM.

Monday, December 21 at 8:30 AM in Council Chambers, Village Hall
NOTE MEETING CHANGE IN FEBRUARY:
