Village of Chagrin Falls
Parks Commission
April 26, 2011
Members present: deConingh, King, Lutz, White
Also: Jeff Snedeker, Ben Himes
The meeting was convened in Riverside Park at 8:32am.
MINUTES
Janna Lutz made a motion to approve the March 15 meeting minutes. Karla seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved.
RIVERSIDE PARK
After discussing a couple of options, it was decided the new drinking fountain would be located at the southeast corner of the playground, east of the moving tunnels. This is in a straight line from the hydrant from where the water will come. This location will require trenching the water line under the sidewalk.
Janna Lutz made a motion to approve the location. Karla seconded the motion. The water fountain location was unanimously approved.
The number and location of the picnic tables was discussed. It was determined there are adequate tables, and their placement is satisfactory.
It was noticed there is moss growing on the shelter roof. It was discussed that power washing and treating the moss may be necessary.
FIVE-YEAR-PLAN
There are three main priorities constituting the five-year plan of the Parks Commission. They are, in order of importance,
#1 The Falls Landing Project
#2 The stairway to the library
#3 River Run Park picnic area – this was deemed to be VERY low in importance.
Regarding the falls landing project, the plan previously developed by CT Consultants was revisited. It was discussed again to possibly implement the plan in two phases. Ben will submit our recommendation to the Village that the falls landing project is a priority of the Parks Commission, and therefore, will hopefully receive funding in the upcoming budget.
During the priorities discussion, it was also mentioned the brick walkway through Riverside Park needs to be redone. It needs a concrete base and the bricks laid again.
BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Beth Skeel reported to Anne that some of the merchants are using artificial flowers in their planters. This is not the intended, or preferable, use of these planters. The concern is that more merchants will follow this example, as it is much less maintenance.
Janna agreed to discuss the situation with the merchants involved.
SERVICE DEPARTMENT
Jeff reported the Jaycees are planning to install a snow fence at the front entrance of Riverside Park.
In the near future, the Grove Hill rose bushes will be trimmed by the Service Department, with guidance from the Beautification Committee.
Jeff reported Good Nature Lawn Care is treating the grass in Triangle, Riverside, and Bell Street Parks. They use an all-organic, systemic application.
Per the last meeting, Tod inquired about having someone power wash the staircase to the falls. A question was raised as to whether there is a power source near the location. Ben will confirm.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:54am.
NEXT MEETING:
May 24, 2011 at 8:30am in Village Hall Council Chambers.
