Chagrin Southeast Hazardous Materials Response Team

The department has the ability to activate regional specialized/technical rescue teams. The Chagrin Southeast Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team was formed in 1990 and provides Haz-Mat emergency response and confined space rescue services to 30 communities. The Team is made up of members from 14 communities and is overseen by the Chagrin Southeast Council of Governments. It was created to be a cost efficient means of serving the entire regionalized area. The Team is staffed with cross-trained firefighter paramedics with an interest in hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction. Each team member receives extensive training and participates in monthly drills. Most members also attend specialized schools throughout the country each year, much of which is funded through grant money. When a fire department needs the special skills and equipment of the Haz-Mat Team they contact the dispatch center and the Team is paged out.
