Chagrin Falls Senior Council - Click for more information and minutes.
The Senior Council, formed at the suggestion of Mayor Thomas Brick in 2006, was organized to support the aging population of Chagrin Falls.
The Council consists of four committees as follows:
1) A non-emergency help line. The telephone number is 440-247-1015. This is very different from calling the police or the fire department or 9-1-1. These numbers are to be used for real emergencies, i.e., someone has fallen in the home and needs immediate medical help; or your house is on fire, or someone is trying to break in.
Non-emergencies can be anytime under the sun that isn't life threatening, i.e., a relative is coming in from California and you want to tell them how to get to Chagrin Falls; or your dog has wandered off and can't be found.
But these occasional troubling situations are not to be confused with the need for the kind of help provided by doctors, dentists, lawyers, plumbers, electricians, etc. Those services are to be found by contacting the Resource Listing Committee, shown next.
2) The Resource Listing Committee, aside from looking in the Yellow Pages in your phone book or asking friends and neighbors for recommendations, has collected a number of documents that list the organization or individuals that provide these services. Bear in mind that these are not recommendations. We are simply trying to spare you the time and trouble of wondering where to start, who you choose to use is your responsibility.
3) The Flu Shot Program Committee: Every Year in the fall, Chagrin Falls Village provides flu shots to the public. The shots are free for Medicare holders. Free health screenings are provided by the Cleveland Clinic. Professional speakers are featured, and the program is open to the public
If you are interested in joining the Council, please contact Jean Hood, Chairman, at 440-247-4676 or email to jeanh@hamletretirement.com.
Non-Emergency Help Line
Please call 440-247-1015 and press #6 for Senior Center. Leave a message and a trained representative appointed by the Mayor from Chagrin Senior Council will answer your call. Your call will remain confidential. The volunteer can give you resources to help solve your problem or find an organization that can provide help. Your problem can be as simple as finding someone to mow you lawn. You may also call Chagrin Falls Police non-emergency and they will refer the call to the committee. The Non-emergency help line was enacted by Council in September 2008 under Ordinance No. 2008-45.

Emergency Services
Food Meals on Wheels - The Federated Church Family Life Center Kitchen (440-543-1405) Provides space for Chagrin Falls Meals on Wheels, Inc. A non-profit, volunteer-staffed home delivered meal service. They receive no government subsidy and their program is available to all regardless of income. This service provides nutritionally balanced meals to recipients in eastern Cuyahoga and southwestern Geauga counties. Nourishing meals are delivered to elderly and disabled persons who are unable to provide meals for themselves. Participants of any age must be home bound due to illness or physical limitations. A volunteer driver plus a rider deliver each meal to a recipient while checking the safety and well-being of the recipient as well as the condition of the home. With caring volunteers delivering the meals, recipients are able to continue independent living in their own homes. Nutritious meals are planned and prepared by a professional cook (the only paid staff person) and a team of kitchen volunteers. A payment of $5.00 per day is requested but no one is turned away for lack of ability to pay. |
